"I have focused on trying to
use this concept and adding to it the element of visual
aesthetics in order to catch the viewer’s eye at first
glance. An appearance, in a way, is a deception in
it’s self. If I can cause a viewer to take a second
look, I know that I have been successful in this respect
by challenging them to look beyond what they originally
saw: a simple image. As the viewer takes a deeper
look, steps closer to the work, delves in a little
further and tries to understand what it is they are
looking at, It is my hope they see the secondary picture.
The picture that is full of stress and conflict due
to the cycle of relationship phases. There are many
ways and mediums in which this message can be presented.
It can be relayed using text, or symbolic items such
as steel cable, which suggests and is symbolic of
tension and restriction or it can be a build up of
texture on the surface referring to an imminent conflict.

"It is important to me that
the viewer, rather participant, comes to his or her
own conclusion about an idea or concept behind a piece
of my work. I do not want my own perspective and concept
to overwhelm the presentation. I only want my ideas
behind the work to guide them into expecting more
out of the piece and out of themselves as they participate
in it. If that occurs then the cycle is complete as
a new relationship has begun between the viewer and
the work."
