About
the Artist
Gabe Stoner &
Mike Hatton
Gabe Stoner began making mobiles
in 1991 after a long career as a hand-weaver. He met
Mike Hatton in 1994 who was a gourmet chef ready for
a change. Since then, the "mobile guys"
have been combining their talents designing mobiles
in many styles and sizes, from small- and medium-
sized mobiles for homes and offices to large commercial
installations where their whimsical mobiles dance
in the sunlight of four-story auditoriums.
"Brilliant-colored, sturdy,
anodized aluminum tubes, wire and sheeting is used
to create our mobile art along with pained and hand-dyed
fabric, paper and wood. The tubular structures that
the aluminum sheeting and fabric and/or paper adhere
to are hand-tied, then decorative materials are laced
or hand sewn onto the pieces. We carefully balance
each level to allow for a sweeping, 360-degree rotation.
Our mobiles range in size from 7
inches to 8 feet in circumference. Some of our commissions
have exceed four stories in height! Styles range from
abstract to elegant and whimsical.
All of our mobiles and kinetic sculptures
are made by hand in our Kansas studio."
