About
the Artist
Deborah Mae Broad
Deborah Mae has a gift, one of patience.
Her work is one of three mediums; wood-engravings,
copper etchings, and drawings. She does each with
incredible detail. Her wood engravings are often mistaken
for fabric or needlework. When you look closely at
an engraving and know anything not black has been
engraved with tiny tools, her patience becomes clear,
as well as her dedication to her art. Rarely do original
prints win Best-of-Show awards, but Deborah's pieces
have won her several.
Deborah Mae Broad was born and raised in Newport News,
Virginia. She graduated from Hollins College and received
an MFA in printmaking from the University of Tennessee
in Knoxville. She currently lives on a farm with her
animals in Hawley, Minnesota.
